Information
for Teachers
Teachers of children
who attend programmes at our Child Study
Centre are foundational to the success of
the students in the programme! We strongly
believe that by visiting the child’s
school and speaking with you, the SFU student
is better able to form meaningful connections
with the child that they will be tutoring
in the summer. We hope that you will be able
to help us by:
• Speaking with the SFU student who will be tutoring the child in your
class for a few minutes to help the SFU student gather knowledge about the
child’s learning and to contextualize these learning difficulties within
a classroom environment. Any information about the child’s learning needs
that you think may be helpful for the SFU student to design an effective educational
programme is helpful.
• Allowing the SFU student to conduct an informal assessment of the child’s
reading abilities at the school. This testing is only for intervention purposes
and involves only language and reading measures that are typically found in
classrooms and/or resource centres and are administered by teachers. (All testing
for research purposes is conducted at SFU and does not involve the SFU student).
We will mail a copy of the student’s final assessment and intervention
report to the school at the end of the summer programme.
If you have any questions about the programme, please contact the staff at
the Child Study Centre.
