Research at the REACH Child Study Centre, 2006
During the summer of 2006, we have planned several
research activities at the Child Study Centre. These include:
• Graduate students enrolled in a
research design course will visit the CSC summer programmes to
practice research observational methods associated with qualitative
research designs. To ensure that these observations do not interfere
with tutoring of the children, a maximum of two students will
visit the programme during a single session.
• Studies that investigate children’s development of
working memory and inhibitory control will be conducted. Some
researchers think that children who struggle with literacy tasks
do so because they have difficulty sorting out what information
to attend to and keeping this information in their memory. Another
difficulty is that some children are distracted easily and cannot
focus their attention on the task at hand. The purpose of
this study will be to investigate these processes among children
who struggle with reading.
