Information for Parents
Parents have a very important
role to play at our Child Study Centre summer
tutoring programme! We appreciate your commitment
to the programme and your
willingness to bring your child to SFU each day
for tutoring. We recognize
that coming to SFU each day for three weeks can
be difficult to manage in
the summer; however, we appreciate your support
of our students and of our
research.
If you are interested in enrolling
your child in the Child Study Centre
summer tutoring programme; here are the steps
to follow:
1. Please review the information
on our website to learn more about the Child
and Study Centre Summer Programme. Here are some
important links:
Costs and Committments
Dates and Times
Parking
Map
Online Registration (Summer 2007 Registration now closed)
2. Register your child
using the Registration form link. Children
will be admitted to the CSC summer tutoring
programme on a first come, first serve basis.
Children who have attended our summer tutoring
programmes in past will have priority during
the first week of registration (April 1st – April
8th ). After April 8, the registration will
open to all interested parents and children.
All registrations must be completed online through
our secure website. Computers are available at
public libraries. Many schools will also allow
parents to use computers for this purpose. The
date and time that you register will be recorded
automatically by the computer.
3. You will receive a phone call from one of
our placement assistants at the Child Study
Centre during the month of April to confirm
your interest and commitment to the CSC summer
programme. Our staff will confirm the time
that you want to come during the summer and
respond to any questions that you may have
about the programme. A letter of confirmation
of registration and a map of SFU will be mailed
to you after this phone call.
4. Once your registration
is confirmed through our letter, please talk
to your school principal and to your child’s
teacher about the SFU Child Study Centre summer
tutoring programme. Please let them know about
this website and that an SFU student may be
contacting them about coming to the school
to speak with teachers and to ask permission
to informally assess your child's reading ability.
It is important that the school staff know
that you support your child’s attendance
in this programme and the visit of the SFU
student to your child’s
school.
5. During the months of April,
May and June, you may be contacted by one of
the Child Study Centre research assistants to
arrange a meeting time for you to bring your
child to SFU for testing for research purposes.
Not all children will be asked to participate
in studies this year, so if you do not receive
a phone call about this testing, please do not
worry.
6. During the first three weeks
of July, your child will attend the Child Study
Centre summer tutoring
programme. Please
ensure that you leave your child with his/her
tutor and that you pick up your child directly
from the tutor at the end of the day. Children
will not be allowed to leave the building to
find parents on their own.
7. We are very open to any
questions or concerns that you have during the
Child Study Centre summer tutoring
programme,
so please contact us if you need more information!
