Information for Administrators

At the REACH Child Study Centre – Summer Programme, we are dedicated to making links between the tutoring children receive in the summer and the schools that they attend throughout the school year. We believe that it is critical for our SFU students to contextualize the content of courses in real life school situations. We hope that through this process, they will gain a respect for the challenges faced by teachers and administrators working in schools in British Columbia.

We hope that you will assist us meet our objective by allowing an undergraduate SFU student, enrolled in the Education 424 course (Learning Disabilities Lab) to visit your school to speak with the child’s teacher and/or learning assistance teacher about the child’s learning difficulties. We also hope that you will allow the student to conduct an informal reading/writing assessment at the school. The results of this assessment and the child’s progress in our summer tutoring programme will be mailed to the school at the end of the programme. The test results collected at the school by SFU students will be not be used for research purposes. We conduct all testing for research at SFU and do not involve the schools in any way.

All parents who have registered children in our summer programme have provided us with signed consent to contact the school. The course procedures of Education 424 have been reviewed by the SFU ethics committee and have received approval. We have had excellent response from schools in past and we try very hard to accommodate teacher’s schedules and wishes. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact:
