Dr. David ZandvlietDavid Zandvliet is an Associate Professor with the Faculty of Education at Simon Fraser University and an Adjunct Research Fellow at Curtin University of Technology (Australia). An experienced teacher and researcher, he has published numerous articles in international journals and presented refereed conference papers on six continents and in over 15 countries. His career interests lie in the areas of science, technology and environmental education. As a former director of the Faculty’s Centre for Educational Technology, he has considerable experience in the design and evaluation of classrooms and in the provision of teacher professional development. He has conducted research and development on learning environments in Australia, Canada, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Taiwan.

Apr. 2006. Awarded the Best Published Paper Award (2005) by the the American Educational Research Association (AERA) (Learning Environments SIG) for the paper: Physical and psychosocial environments associated with Internet classrooms, published January 2005 in the journal, Learning Environments Research (Springer).

Apr. 2006. Awarded a Service Award from the US Based, National Association for Research in Science Teaching (NARST) for 5 years of service as the organization’s Annual Meeting Coordinator and Electronic Services Director (2001 – 2006).

March 2006. Awarded a Teaching Fellowship by the US Congressionally Chartered, National Tropical Botanical Garden. Selected as one of 12 International faculty for the Harvard Summer School Program for Faculty Development held June 12-23, 2006. Topics include professional development in the areas of ethnobotany and ethnopharmacology.
