Youth action for sustainability
April 20, 2007

From Thursday, May 3 - Friday, May 4, 2007, the Faculty of Education at Simon Fraser University will be hosting a symposium for more than 100 high school students from across the Lower Mainland who want to take action toward sustaining our local and global communities.
"These highschool students will share information and ideas to motivate and support each other in working towards a better future that's going to last," explains Lannie Kanevsky, associate professor in the Faculty of Education.
The symposium is also an opportunity for these youth to connect with community leaders such as Simon Jackson, founder of The Spirit Bear Youth Coalition who will make the keynote address at the event. Milt McLaren, an education professor emeritus from SFU will host a "fireside chat", an interactive audience discussion. From looking at sustaining and protecting our local watersheds to addressing the issues in Darfur, students at the symposium will strategize and develop activities that inspire action toward a more sustainable world.
