Some of the 107 students, staff and faculty who made up the “Education Matters” team in last month’s Terry Fox run.
Armed with umbrellas, rain gear, gloves and toques, the “Education Matters” team showed up in droves to show support for the Oct. 20th Terry Fox Run. More than100 walkers and runners, accustomed to SFU weather, braved the rainy, misty conditions that day. Their hardiness earned them second place in the “Number of Participants” category. However, more importantly, of the 26 registered teams, “Education Matters” took top spot for the “Most Spirited Team” award. While they didn’t have fancy costumes or mascots, their cheer was definitely the loudest, proudest and most heartfelt of all.
Participants were led through a warm-up exercise by instructors from Recreation and Athletics and then treated to a choral performance from the children’s choir of Roy Stibbs Elementary School.
Thank you to everyone who walked, ran or donated. If you haven’t yet sent in your donation to this valuable cause, there is still time to contribute online or in person at MBC 1150 or at www.sfu.ca/terryfox/donatenow.html. As Terry said, “If you’ve given a dollar, you are part of the Marathon of Hope”
Finally, a big thank you to Dean Paul Shaker for allowing staff the time to participate in this very meaningful event. We look forward to an even bigger and better showing next year!
