In many areas of endeavour, people progress from novices to experts through a series of stages. Teachers are no exceptions. Based on a large series of studies, a theory emerged as to how this development happens. Examples of the remarkable ability of expert teachers are also presented.
Berliner’s newest book with Sharon Nichols, Collateral Damage How High-Stakes Testing Corrupts America's Schools, Harvard University Press focuses on the corruption of professional educators through high-stakes testing. Over the years Berliner has published numerous articles, technical reports and book chapters, and has authored and co-authored many books including his best seller The Manufactured Crisis. Berliner has taught at Stanford University, as well as, universities in Australia, The Netherlands, Spain, and Switzerland. Currently, he is Regents’ Professor of Education at Arizona State University.
