Dr. Ian Andrews, Director of International Programs
Government officials from B.C. and China have signed an agreement allowing for more post-secondary degrees, diplomas and certificates to be recognized by both governments. The agreement was made November 21 during Premier Gordon Campbell’s trade mission to China. Representatives from SFU were part of the delegation and also signed an exchange agreement with Tsinghua University in Beijing and another involving Greek language training with Beijing University. SFU is currently involved in the second year of a unique dual degree program with Zhejiang University, which will see students obtain computing science degrees from both universities at the end of their studies.
“As we graduate our first group of students participating in a Master of Education (this cohort comprises of 20 students from throughout China) it is rewarding to think of how this announcement may enhance more credit, non-credit, and certificate programs with Chinese teachers and teacher educators,” said Ian Andrews, Director of International Teacher Education at SFU. Andrews has participated in numerous academic and practicum exchanges between SFU and Chinese education institutions and understands the value of these programs. He is very pleased to learn of the future potential opportunities in China for SFU and the Faculty of Education.
