On Thursday, December 7, the Faculty of Education at SFU hosted the 2nd annual BCTF Day. School teachers from across the province volunteered their time, knowledge, and skills with our students by leading workshops on topics that ranged from “Poverty As a Classroom Issue” to “Strategies for Discussing Controversial Issues” and “Breaking the Silence: Lesbian/Gay issues in schools”.

Dr. Paul Shaker, Dean of Education, SFU introduced Jinny Sims, President, British Columbia Teacher’s Federation (BCTF) and keynote speaker at the event. “Collaborating with the BCTF on this annual event makes sense for our students as they prepare to embark on their teaching careers,” said Colin Chow, PDP coordinator. “The event served to broaden their awareness of issues raised in the workshops, and of what the BCTF can offer in terms of support in social justice and professional development.”
