ICONHow have your town and the river changed over time?....Did the First Nations peoples use the river? How? In what ways was the river important to them? What evidence do we have of how First Nations peoples lived with the river before contact with non-native explorers or settlers? Did the first non-native settlers travel on the river? How did they get to this area? Why was the first non-native community built where it was - was it in the same place as the First Nations settlement? What sorts of uses did the first non-native settlers make of the river? If you were to compare maps of your town in 1867, 1900, 1940, and today, what changes could be seen on the maps. What has been the impact of these changes on the river?

Who were some of the important non-native early settlers and explorers in your region. What connections did they have to the rivers in your region? (Used the water for irrigation, travelled to the area by canoe or river raft, trapped beaver or muskrat on the river, fished in it....etc.)

Famous disasters on the river.... Have there been any major floods in the past history of your town. Is there any danger of flooding today?

Great past events....Are there important events in the history of your town? Do these have anything to do with the river? (Gold found in the river gravels, construction of Forts or Trading posts on the river shores, etc.
