Description of Project Centurion Creek Stream Study

Students will study Centurion Creek throughout the seasons. In the Spring we will study the aesthetics and history of the Peace River.

Stages of Development 1. Planning Stage

Co-ordinate local teachers in water studies; conduct two one-day workshops.

Work and funding for three day-trips to the Peace River.

Work with the Chetwynd Environmental Society on local stream program links with their recent report.

Look at our community and stream.

Discussion with B.C. Hydro.

2. Activities in Progress

Mapping Centurion Creek (aerial photographs), personal maps.

Studying how the Creek changes seasonally.

Water colour journal.

3. Completed Activities

Two one-day professional development days with combined water stewardship, streamwalk, and streamkeepers activities.

Funding received from the School District for two trips to the Peace River.

Comments / Suggestions We need ideas for looking at communities for grade 3-4, or materials we can adapt. Any suggestions out there?

April 1997 Postscript:
We will not get to the Peace this year, as it is so ’’wild.’’ We are hoping to put our slide show on a CD-ROM so other kids in our area can see it.
