MASTER OF EDUCATION

 

TEACHING ENGLISH AS A FOREIGN/SECOND LANGUAGE (International Cohort Program)

 

PROGRAM OVERVIEW


The Master of Education in Teaching English as a Foreign or Second Language (TEFL/TESL) provides an exciting and in-depth professional, scholarly, and cultural experience for its students.

 

English language teachers and specialists, from a variety of countries, will develop and increase their understanding of educational issues and practices specific to TEFL/TESL while studying in a multicultural environment.

 

The program involves coursework in current theories of curriculum and instruction, as well as, practical field experiences to observe teaching practices in Canadian classrooms.
This framework will enable students to apply new understanding to the development of ideas and strategies in their own or other EFL/ESL professional environments.

INTERNATIONAL TEACHER EDUCATION (Intensive, Short-term, Non-credit, Professional Development Program)

 

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

 

International Programs, Faculty of Education, Simon Fraser University, collaborates with international partner educational institutions and organizations to offer individualized, short term, non-credit programs for groups of teachers, student teachers and educational leaders.

Programs are designed to best reflect the educational and cultural contexts of the participating groups, the majority of whom request courses in the teaching of English as a Foreign or Additional Language (TEFL/TEAL).

 

The format normally includes workshops, seminars, discussion sessions, presentations, school visits, field trips, cultural events, enrolling 16 to 22 participants for 2 to 6 weeks.

INTERNATIONAL AND GLOBAL EDUCATION (Minor Program)

 

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

 

This minor provides opportunities to explore an interdisciplinary, experientially based approach to International and Global Education so that appropriate learning experiences can be created and infused in any given elementary and secondary course.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATION PROGRAM (PQP)

 

PROGRAM OVERVIEW


The PQP is a 12 month program located in the lower mainland. This program supports teachers who have previous teaching experience or qualifications from outside Canada to enter the teaching profession in BC. Prospective students need to first contact the BC College of Teachers to have their credentials evaluated.

SHORT-TERM INTERNATIONAL INTERNSHIP

 

PROGRAM OVERVIEW


Professional Programs coordinate internship opportunities for recent graduates of PDP in several countries throughout the world. Working with international educational partners, PDP offers graduates short-term teaching experiences that can be combined with graduate and undergraduate coursework. The internship positions vary from year to year, but, typically, we will be looking for candidates for countries in Asia. If interested check with your program coordinator or the coordinator of International Initiatives.
