This program will be held in Maple Ridge, BC.
This program leads to the Master of Education (MEd) degree and is intended primarily for teachers and other educators in the Fraser Valley who wish to connect education to place and community, both within the formal school system and outside it. The program is offered in the context of a long-term research partnership between the SFU Faculty of Education and the school district and municipality of Maple Ridge. The “environmental school” at the heart of this collaboration is founded on five sets of guiding principles: Place and Community; Nature, Ecology and Sustainability; Inquiry and Possibility; Interdependence and Flourishing; Imagination and Integration. The MEd program is designed to develop a deep understanding of these principles and their application to educational practice, within a framework of collaborative, participatory action research that aims to benefit schools, districts, and communities within the Fraser River watershed.
This program extends over six terms, beginning in Summer 2012 and concluding in Spring 2014. The Master of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction is awarded following the completion of a series of six courses and a culminating Comprehensive Examination.
