What this program is about...

This program is intended for educators who wish to examine critically current educational curriculum theory, research, and practice.  Participants will be encouraged to examine their own instructional practices and to consider carefully the match between their practices and their developing curriculum theories of education. While the program is grounded in curriculum core courses, it provides an option to permit students to design a focus of specific interest to their professional goals. Courses are offered in the late afternoon / evening during each semester.

Which prerequisites are necessary...

A Bachelor degree with a standing of a 3.0 CGPA (or B average) will normally be required for admissions.

How the program is structured...

 

Degree(s) MA MEd (comprehensive exam)

 

The MA route consists of 25 units of course work plus a thesis, and the MEd degree route consists of 35 units of course work plus a comprehensive examination.

 

MEd students will complete three core courses from the above core requirements listing, plus four elective courses taken from all graduate education courses available.

EDUC 823-5 Curriculum and Instruction in an Individual Teaching Speciality
EDUC 830-5 Implementation of Educational Programs
EDUC 833-5 Social and Moral Philosophy in Education
EDUC 851-5 Perspectives on Technology-Supported Learning
EDUC 883-5
Comprehensive Examination OR

The MEd comprehensive examination normally will consist of at least two but not more than four parts; (a) a paper, (b) an analysis of a previously developed portfolio, (c) an oral examination on a topic provided to the student when the examination is issued, or (d) a mix of these formats.

What financial support is available...

Outstanding applicants may be offered financial assistance in the form of an entrance Graduate Fellowship in the amount of $6250. Applicants should note, however, that the number of such fellowships is limited. Additional financial resources can include scholarships and bursuries as well as part-time employment as a teaching assistant (TA) or research assistant (RA). Tuition is reduced to $782.80/term after 6 terms for Masters students and 8 terms for PhD students. All other costs remain the same each term.
