Please follow these steps to apply to the EdD program in the Faculty of Education:
- Fill out the Online Application. Follow this link.
- Pay the application fee of $75.00 online. Payment is required in order for us to start processing your application. Payment is by credit card. The Application Fee is non-refundable.
- Submit additional information and supporting documents to the Faculty of Education. See below.
You will need to submit the following HARD COPY documents directly to Graduate Programs, Surrey:
- Official Transcripts - either originals or certified copies. Please submit one copy only. It can be sent directly to us from the issuing institution or you may include it in your application package provided if it is in its original sealed envelope. If your original documents are not in English, please include a certified English translation. Applicants from universities that do not issue transcripts are required to submit official documents showing contents of degree program completed and the standards or grades obtained.
- Original TOEFL / IELTS scores. For those applicants whose first language is not English.
- Letter of Intent. The Letter of Intent form is optional to use. Please submit a typed Letter of Intent. Maximum 500 words. Explain in your own words why you wish to pursue graduate work in the area you are applying for. Detail your educational background, relevant research experience and training, and your research interests and goals. Be sure to include your employment and position.
- Reference Letters. Reference Letter form is optional to use. Three current, confidential references in signed and sealed envelopes, indicating the student’s ability to undertake advanced work in the area of interest. Referees should include academic and professional references.
Please ensure your referees include the following information:
• A frank appraisal of the ability of the applicant to undertake a rigorous program of graduate study.
• Comment on the applicant’s scholarly competence and academic ability to undertake advanced studies in education.
• Personal qualities that you deem relevant to the candidate’s ability to engage in graduate work.
• Length of time and the context in which you have known the candidate.

- Academic Writing Sample. Recent example of academic writing (within five years). If applicants do not have a recent paper they are advised to write one on any topic that is of interest or relevance to them.
The writing sample must illustrate an applicant’s ability to:
• express ideas in clear and appropriate language
• sustain an argument and develop a logical conclusion.
- Resume. A copy of your current resume (3 pages maximum) – may include a brief summary of publications.

ADMISSIONS INFORMATION
Admission decisions are based on an assessment of the applicant's intellectual ability, academic background, writing ability, competence to pursue advanced studies in education, and, where appropriate, relevant experience. Admission to graduate study is competitive.
Admissions decisions are made on two levels: the Graduate Program Committee in the Faculty of Education and the Senate Graduate Studies Committee at Simon Fraser University.
