Marvin Wideen, Professor Emeritus, Teacher Education

My research is in the area of teacher education with particular emphasis on  how beginning teachers learn-to teach and teacher educators. This research was funded by standard SSHRC grants and internal grants. For the past three years I have been involved in work with third world countries (Trinidad & Tobago and Jamaica) to reform their educational systems. 

My work there has focused on professional development.

d.    Mentor and supervisor for students in Irian Jahai working on a PhD program at Simon Fraser University.

Awards and Distinctions

1.   Outstanding publication award from American Education Research Association (AERA), for the best review paper published in an AERA journal in 1998.  A critical analysis of the research on learning-to-teach.  Review of Education Research 68(2), 130-178.

2.   Outstanding publication award from Division K, AERA for a report, British Columbia Ministry of Education, 1991 B.C. Science Assessment.
