General Information
Instructors offered appointments will receive a letter enclosing the relevant payroll documents. All documents must be completed, signed and returned to the Field Programs office before any contract can be processed through SFU’s payroll department.
In order to access pay advice information and other SFU systems (i.e. Library, e-mail service, etc.) instructors require a computing ID. After the first pay period of your contract, you will receive an instruction sheet on how to set up your Computing ID and password.
Instructors are asked to limit the amount of copying necessary from print materials where possible and refer to on-line documents, other sources or recommend the purchase of original texts. Copying of any print materials must not violate copyright laws. Field Programs will not be responsible for any legal action taken against instructors who do not comply with SFU”s copyright licence. See http://www.sfu.ca/archives/CopyrightProgram.html and http://www.accesscopyright.ca/.
Instructors are required to distribute course evaluations before the end of the course. Procedures for the distribution and collection of evaluations will be provided along with the evaluation forms. The procedures outlined must be followed as described in the package.
Instructors must provide a course outline for the course they have been contracted to teach and must be received in the Field Programs office before the beginning of the course.
Instructors must seek prior written approval from the Faculty Associate responsible for the program for any expenses deemed necessary in fulfilling their contractual obligations. A copy of this written approval must be included with any expense claims submitted.
However, Field Programs does not generally pay for travel between home and the location of the class (i.e. your place of work for the course you have been hired to teach) or for incidental office expenses such as pens, pencils, paper, printer cartridges, etc., used in the preparation of coursework.
Expense claims must be signed and submitted to Kathie Wraight in the Field Programs office, along with all receipts and a copy of the program Faculty Associate’s approval for expenses.
Instructors are expected to comply with all SFU policies and procedures http://www.sfu.ca/policies/ and in particular the Protection of Privacy policy, which can be found at http://www.sfu.ca/policies/information/I10-04.htm.
Instructors are required to submit grades by the deadlines announced each semester. A grade sheet will be forwarded before the end of the course, along with a deadline on when they are due in the Field Programs office.
Pay advice information is available via SFU’s on-line service at http://www.sfu.ca/human-resources/myINFO.html. In order to access this system instructors must first activate their SFU computing ID. See information on “Computing ID/SFU E-mail Account”.
Instructors requiring photocopying for distribution to students should provide a package to the Field Programs office staff, who will arrange for photocopies to be made.* Packages should be supplied a minimum of 5 days before they are required. In exceptional circumstances where an instructor is not able to make these arrangements with the Field Programs staff, instructors may make their own arrangements for copying. In these circumstances Field Programs will pay up to 8¢/copy – receipts will be required. Students should be charged for any copies distributed to them – see “Student Charges” below.
* All instructors must ensure that copyright laws are not violated. See http://www.sfu.ca/archives/CopyrightProgram.html
Students should be charged for any textbooks purchased on their behalf or for photocopying distributed to them. Please contact the program”s Faculty Associate or Dianne Gordon in the Field Programs office at 778.782.5830 (d_gordon@sfu.ca) to make arrangements for this.
