Application Information for the Graduate Diploma in Advanced Professional Studies in Education
Applying to the Graduate Diploma in Advanced Professional Studies in Education is a three-step process. A PDF of this information is also available.

Step 1
Complete an on-line application to SFU. An instruction sheet on using the on-line application system is also available in PDF format.
An application fee of $75* is due after the on-line application form has been submitted.
*Please note that on-line application requires the use of a credit card to pay the application fee. If you do not have a credit card, please contact the Field Programs office before continuing with your application. If the program does not fill and is cancelled, this fee will be refunded.
Step 2
Gather your supporting documents. Your complete package of supporting documents will include all of the materials described below and must be submitted together, at one time.

- Transcript(s) from a recognized university/ies showing at least the last two full years of letter-graded undergrad coursework. Click here for additional requirements for applicants with undergraduate GPAs less than 2.5.
- Statement of interest
Please consider the following questions as you prepare the statement of interest:
- What interested you in this program?
- What do you hope to learn? How do you think this program might enhance your work in education?
- What previous professional development and/or coursework (if any) have you had in this area?
- In what ways do you see yourself contributing to a learning community of colleagues?
- Concise summary of professional teaching assignments (listed from current to past)
- Photocopy of valid professional teaching certificate (the 81/2 X 11 BCCT Certificate, not the BCCT membership card)
- Photocopy of current TQS Category card
- Two letters of reference must be included with your application. Each letter of reference must be accompanied by the signed Request for Confidential Letter of Reference cover sheet. Each should be in a sealed envelope with the referee's signature across the seal. They may not be sent by fax or email. (Click here for PDF of form)
Letters must be specific to this application and must address the criteria mentioned below in relation to your:
- Engagement in ongoing professional development
- Participation in collaborative learning and teaching
- Willingness and ability to critically examine professional practice, and
- Any other personal or professional qualities that may support the application (for example, organization, commitment & follow through, interpersonal skills…)
- If you have ever applied to SFU in the past and have since changed your name, then you must include documentation showing proof of name change. Your application cannot be processed until this has been provided.
Step 3
Once the on-line application form has been submitted, please mail your complete package of supporting documents to:
