My research focuses on fostering young people's artistic and musical engagement in ways that explore and contribute to positive values, self-identiies, motivation, well-being, and cultural understandings. I am Director of Research for Youth, Music and Education (RYME) with collaborative projects involving youth engagement in arts and music, youth-led participatory action research and advocacy, youth leadership, intergenerational learning, personal and social commitment to learning, and multimodal learning. A key overlapping concern of my scholarship involves conceptualizing young people's artistic worlds as zones of complexity that foster critical explorations and expansive learning opportunities within integrated arts and music curricula and beyond, and zones of contact involving interconnections through discursive practices, social media, and learning relationships.
